How to look stylish in 3 easy steps

While it is true that we should not judge a book by its cover, it is also true that first impressions matter. Developing a style that fits you and looks great on you can be a hard challenge to tackle, as well as something many people put off due to it being too much effort and favoring the style they have adopted so far. It can be truly hard to have the willingness to see the strengths and weaknesses of our self-image so that in turn we can work on changing those weaknesses. If you feel like the image you project isn’t the one you would like, here are 3 universal tips that can help you look and be your best.

Buy clothes that fit you

Your body type, weight, or size is not an excuse to get ill-fitting clothes nowadays. Most big brands and small shops today make at least some type of clothes that adapt to your body, so it is a matter of looking among them and trying something that truly fits. You will know when something fits because the difference is striking when you compare yourself to how you look with the usual too-loose or too-tight clothes you wear.

It truly isn’t some big secret or some unachievable goal. Moreover, fitting clothes can be any type of clothes you like. Nobody is suggesting you radically change your wardrobe to only suits or dresses. Be mindful of social situations and what kind of clothes you need the most, this way you will avoid lacking outfits for a particular occasion and you will always look your best no matter the context.

Tend to your personal hygiene and appearance

This next tip isn’t rocket science either. If you don’t usually pay attention to your hair, your nails, and other details like your facial hair in the case of men, then just start making the extra effort of paying attention to them. Keep your hair clean and styled in any way you like it. You can go as far as getting a new haircut if you are feeling like a makeover is overdue. Keep your nails and beard properly trimmed, and you will notice a difference in how clean you feel in contrast with the past.

Needless to say, regular showers and body odor products are mandatory. Perfume and cologne are a nice extra, but again, make an effort to find a scent that really suits you. Choose something that is preferably not too strong on the nose, and that has a nice lingering scent on your skin.

Pay attention to the details

The devil is in the details, and there are a ton of things you can do that will help you go the extra mile in terms of style. For instance, if you wear dress shirts and pants to work, make sure you take them to the cleaners regularly. Something even better would be to learn how to iron them yourself, though you will need an ironing board and a steam iron. If you don’t know how to choose one, here’s a list of reviewed steam irons.

Polishing your shoes, wearing contrasting socks, wearing a nice watch, or sporting any other fitting accessory that you feel defines you a little bit more is always a great way to keep yourself sharp and attentive to details.
